Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin announced Wednesday that the agency would aim to undo former President Joe Biden’s regulations limiting carbon and toxic emissions from fossil fuel power plants, a major deregulatory undertaking that would undo one of the most significant policies addressing climate change.

“Both proposed rules, if finalized, would deliver savings to American families on electricity bills, and it will ensure that they have the electricity that they need today,” Zeldin said at a press conference on Wednesday. “EPA is taking an important step, reclaiming sanity and sound policy, illustrating that we can both protect the environment and grow the economy.” 

The rules in question were finalized last April by the Biden administration. They set a series of standards for fossil fuel power plants, requiring new and existing plants to reduce carbon pollution by installing carbon capture, sequestration, and storage technology to limit the release of other toxic substances, such as mercury.

Zeldin argued that the Biden standards sought to regulate coal, oil, and gas out of existence. 

Congressional Republicans are racing to harness the momentum left behind by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and the leaders of a new House GOP initiative are hoping they have the solution.

"You tell people the word ‘rescission,' in my district, I'm sure that polls pretty low, but they know waste, they know fraud, and they know abuse," Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., told Fox News Digital.

"This is why this process needs to be not only explained to our own members, but also to the population out here that might not know what the heck a rescission is, but know that they want the wasteful spending to end."

Moore is leading the Republican Study Committee's (RSC) new task force, aimed at getting both fellow House Republicans and the American public on board with the GOP on a mechanism for spending cuts known as rescissions.

Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) explained the difference between the Big Beautiful Bill Act and the recent cuts made by the Department of Government Efficiency.

“So, obviously, I want to see these executive orders codified, as well as the DOGE cuts, though I do want to point something out, very important: It’s not going to be in the ‘big, beautiful bill’ because that only deals with mandatory spending,” Moore said. “This week, we are going to get a rescission package from the White House that is going to start implementing these DOGE cuts. I’m a member of the House Appropriations Committee. We’re starting our budget process, in which that’s where you’re going to see a lot of the DOGE cuts as well.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Wednesday that the Trump administration will “aggressively revoke” visas for a segment of Chinese students.

Chinese foreign nationals studying “critical fields” or with ties to the Chinese Communist Party will be among the students targeted for removal, the top US diplomat said. 

The US grants nearly 300,000 student visas to Chinese nationals every year, according to Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.), who introduced legislation to halt the practice earlier this year.

“The CCP poses an existential threat to the US,” Moore wrote on X following Rubio’s announcement. “We should not be letting 300,000 Chinese nationals into our research institutions every year.

“This is a huge move from the Trump Admin, and now Congress must codify the president’s agenda by passing my Stop CCP Visas Act.”

The congressman noted that Beijing’s 2017 National Intelligence Law requires any Chinese organization or citizen to support, assist and cooperate with the state intelligence work –  both at home and abroad.

“We’ve literally invited the CCP to spy on our military, steal our intellectual property, and threaten national security,” Moore said when he unveiled his bill in March. “Just last year, the FBI charged five Chinese nationals here on student visas after they were caught photographing joint US-Taiwan live fire military exercises.

“This cannot continue.”
