Congressman Riley M. Moore Presents $1 Million for Watson Fire Station Renovation

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Riley M. Moore presented a $1 million check to City of Fairmont officials in support of Fairmont’s renovation of the Watson Fire Station.

Congressman Riley M. Moore released the following statement:

“Fairmont’s first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect their neighbors. They deserve a facility that ensures they have the tools and resources necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively. I’m proud to have secured this $1 million in federal funding through my work on the House Appropriations Committee to help modernize the Watson Fire Station and ensure Fairmont’s firefighters and EMS personnel have a safe, efficient, and mission-ready facility for years to come.” 

The Watson Fire Station has provided essential fire and EMS services to the Watson neighborhood, Fairmont State University, and the Fairmont Technology Park for nearly 50 years. However, the aging facility no longer meets the operational needs of the Fairmont Fire Department or the growing needs of the surrounding community.

The funding will help the City of Fairmont transform the outdated station into a modern, mission-ready facility. Planned improvements include converting the original apparatus bay into sleeping and living quarters and constructing a new, energy-efficient apparatus bay to house fire vehicles, turnout gear, SCBA equipment, a hose washer and dryer, and other essential infrastructure. The upgrades will improve response capabilities, support staffing needs, ensure compliance with current codes, and allow the department to expand technical rescue and EMS services. 

The project represents a significant investment in Fairmont’s public safety infrastructure and will help ensure the Fairmont Fire Department is equipped to continue providing critical services to the community for decades to come.
