Congressman Riley M. Moore Announces $246,000 Federal Grant for Fairmont Firefighters

October 1, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Riley M. Moore announced that the City of Fairmont has been awarded $246,000 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, providing critical federal support for Fairmont’s firefighters and first responders. Congressman Moore worked with the City of Fairmont and FEMA to secure this grant.

Congressman Riley M. Moore released the following statement:

“Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve the resources and equipment they need to do their jobs well. I’m proud to have worked to help secure this $246,000 grant for Fairmont and will continue working to make sure our first responders have the tools they need to protect West Virginians.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program provides funding to eligible fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to help equip and train emergency personnel, provide protective equipment, improve operational capabilities, and strengthen community resilience.

“This grant is a tremendous investment in the health, safety, and future of our firefighters. It will allow us to develop a comprehensive wellness program that goes beyond traditional occupational health initiatives to address physical fitness, preventive medical care, behavioral health, cancer prevention and early detection, and the unique health risks associated with a career in the fire service. We are especially excited about our partnership with WVU Medicine and the opportunity to help establish a program that can ultimately serve firefighters beyond our own department. We are extremely grateful to receive this funding and excited about what it will allow us to accomplish for our firefighters, their families and the fire service throughout our region,” said Fairmont Fire Chief Brian Starn.

The grant represents another federal investment in Fairmont’s public safety infrastructure. Earlier this month, Congressman Moore presented city officials with a $1 million federal funding check to support the renovation of Fairmont’s Watson Fire Station, which has served the community for nearly 50 years. The project will modernize the facility and improve the department’s ability to provide fire and EMS services to the surrounding community.
