Congressman Moore Introduces U.S. Reciprocal Trade Act

January 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Riley M. Moore introduced the United States Reciprocal Trade Act with eight of his House colleagues. This is the first bill Rep. Moore has introduced since being sworn in on January 3rd.

The legislation empowers President Trump to address harmful trade imbalances caused by foreign tariffs and non-tariff barriers placed on U.S. manufactured goods. This bill, which is an important part of President Trump’s Agenda 47, authorizes the President to negotiate with foreign nations on behalf of the American people to lower tariff rates on American goods and, when necessary, impose reciprocal tariffs on foreign-made goods entering the U.S. With this new negotiating power, the President will have the tools necessary to promote fair and equitable trade, reduce trade deficits, boost American manufacturing, and ultimately negotiate tariffs downward, further opening or expanding markets to U.S. goods.

America 2100, the Center for Renewing America, and the Bull Moose Project all endorsed Congressman Moore’s legislation.

Congressman Moore released the following statement:

“American manufacturing has endured decades of decline under the globalist system that has hollowed out our industrial base and shipped countless jobs overseas. Leaders in both political parties deserve blame. But those days are over.

“President Trump was the first national politician in my lifetime to recognize this problem, campaign on it, and work to reverse that trend. With the U.S. Reciprocal Trade Act, we’ll give the Executive the leverage necessary to go to bat for the American people and achieve tariff reductions on U.S. goods.”

Rep. Michael Rulli, an original co-sponsor of the bill, added:

“I fully and unequivocally support the United States Reciprocal Trade Act because it boldly puts America first. This legislation arms President Trump with the authority needed to rebuild our hollowed-out manufacturing base, fortify our economic security, and decisively slash the trade deficit. It’s a game-changer that ensures a level playing field for American workers and businesses, finally standing up to decades of unfair trade practices.”

Joining Rep. Moore as original co-sponsors were Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Rep. Addison McDowell (NC), Rep. Mike Collins (GA), Rep. Nick Begich (AK), Rep. Abe Hamadeh (AZ), Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA), Rep. Brian Jack (GA), and Rep. Michael Rulli (OH).
